Nyungwe National Park
The
size of Rwanda comes in handy when travelling from the Parc National
des Volcans in the north down to the Nyungwe National Park in the south.
Driving along Lake Kivu, the freshwater lake separating Rwanda and
Democratic Republic of Congo is a wonderful way to experience everyday
Rwandan life. You’ll be captivated by both the people and the
countryside as you weave through the hills and mountains on the
eucalyptus lined roads, passing smiling villagers.
Chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe National Park is an exciting and charming
wildlife adventure. Nyungwe is the largest montane forest in central
Africa is absolutely stunning, with 1,000km2 rich with endemic species
and 130km of trails in this untouched tropical rainforest in search of
the 13 species of primates including grey-cheeked mangabeys, Rwenzori
colobus monkey and owl-faced monkeys and, of course, colonies of chimps.
Nyungwe is a paradise for birdwatchers who will relish the thrill of
spotting any of the 310 exotic species of the forest as they flit and
fly through the branches amongst the vibrant colorful butterflies and
orchids.

Vacations in Rwanda
Vacations
in Rwanda are arranged in the hope of catching a glimpse of the
incredible mountain gorilla. With a dramatic landscape of Volcanoes National Park 270 habituated mountain gorillas live here and is one of
the best places for gorilla sightings. Days spent trekking may be long
and arduous, but the reward is beyond imagination. No matter how many
times you picture coming within feet of a majestic silverback, nothing
can prepare you for the feeling of both terror and wonder as its hazel
eyes stare straight at you; the hairs standing up on the back of your
neck as it permits you to enter its territory. Gorillas are more like
man than any other creature, and it’s perhaps this that makes these
creatures so intriguing and this experience so unlike any other mammals
or primates.
Other wildlife include chimpanzees, colobus monkeys and birdlife, can be
found in the dense rainforests of Nyungwe National Park, rich in flora
and fauna and with spellbinding green terraced hills, freshwater of Lake
Kivu which have secluded inland beach and pretty towns lining its
shores. Cultural Butare hosts the former King’s Palace and several
museums, whilst a visit to Kigali offers a chilling reminder of Rwanda’s
troubled past with historical sites including the Genocide Memorial
Site.
The majestic mountains, rolling hills and lush grassy lowlands of Rwanda
create a beautiful wild and untamed piece of Africa. Rwanda holidays
are famous for taking you to the home of mountain gorillas, an
incredible wildlife moment filled with both adventure and tranquility.
However Rwanda has so much more to offer its visitors. After the
horrendous and unforgettable events of 1994, Rwanda has prospered into a
calm, hopeful and charming country eager to welcome and host guests.
Built along a hillside with incredible views, Kigali is a remarkably
safe city to explore while on a vacation in Rwanda. Kigali has a number
of terrific places to stay including the luxury five-star Kigali Serena
on the stylish Rue de Revolution and the family-run serene garden hotel,
Chez Lando. A visit to the Genocide Memorial Centre is a powerful and
heart-wrenching experience but important to remember the tragedies which
happened not too long ago and to appreciate how much the country has
recovered. Located in the heart of the country, Kigali is the gateway to
your wildlife destinations in the north and south, a couple of days
spent here a brilliant introduction to the country.
When you choose to trek the gorillas in Rwanda, be prepared to trek up
to altitudes of 3,000km and for five hours a day through thick
vegetation, mud and regular rain showers. But encountering a troop,
watching these rare gentle giants in the peaceful atmosphere of the
jungle is a truly outstanding reward for your hard work. Gorilla permits
costing $750 and selling out months in advance, it’s all worth it when
face-to-face with the gorillas building their nest for a midday rest,
collecting fruit and cuddling their young.

Travelling in Rwanda
This is very comfortable on our safaris. The roads are largely good
asphalt surfaces with many new roads being constructed to replace dirt
roads. You can still choose to drive yourself, but in other ways our
travelers use one of our private guides and 4WDs – allowing them to
control the daily schedule and pace of their Rwanda holiday. It’s a
lovely way to see the Rwanda, often with beautiful views around every
corner. Although there are some excellent hotels, Rwanda's facilities
can sometimes be basic; service and food can be poor, as many staff are
new to tourism. However, a glance at the heart of contemporary Africa,
for some wonderful wildlife viewing and inspiring, thought-provoking
travel, a holiday in Rwanda can be fascinating.

A glance at Rwanda Safari Vacation
Rwanda with
the three national parks, a thriving capital city, spectacular mountain scenery
and some surprisingly diverse wildlife, has plenty to occupy a longer holiday
and certainly deserves further exploration. Today, Rwanda has one of the
fastest growing economies in Africa. Yet for most people, it inevitably
conjures up images of the fateful genocide of 1994, when almost a million
people died. Whilst the genocide is a massive part of its history, twenty years
on Rwanda has evolved into a united, proud and optimistic country that warmly
welcomes its visitors and provides a truly memorable and inspiring holiday.
Where to
go on a Rwanda holiday
Volcanoes
National Park is among Rwanda’s three parks and is the place that most people
come to on holiday because of its renowned residents, the mountain gorillas.
Rwanda’s gorilla trekking is its biggest attraction. Less well-known holiday
options are Akagera National Park on its eastern border and Nyungwe Forest
National Park in the south.
Akagera National
Park in Rwanda is the only park with traditional safaris offering good wildlife
opportunities, although not on the scale of the parks in Kenya or Tanzania. Akagera
scenery is beautiful - it could be described as Rwanda’s Lake District - and
worth visiting for that alone. In stark contrast, Nyungwe is dense rainforest
with interesting hiking trails, bird watching and primate spotting. The parks
are easily accessible by road, so a circuit of all three perhaps including the
beautiful shore of Lake Kivu and the capital, Kigali, can make a fascinating
and diverse holiday.
Gorilla tracking
safaris in Rwanda
This is
an ultimate wildlife experience and the reason why most people come here on
holiday: sitting within a small family group of gorillas is a 'must' for
serious wildlife enthusiasts. This is where Dian Fossey first brought the
world’s attention to the plight of these majestic primates in the late 1960s,
when only around 250 survived. Today their numbers worldwide have increased to
some 880, split between Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo;
almost half of them live in Rwanda.
Mountain
gorilla survival is one of Africa’s greatest conservation success stories, and
tourism has played its role in this. Rwanda is regarded as probably the best
destination for a gorilla tracking safari. Your permitted hour with these great
apes promises to be a priceless encounter that will remain with you long after
your holiday is over.
Primate
holidays in Rwanda
Nyungwe
Forest National Park hosts thirteen different primate species, among them are
the chimpanzees and Rwenzori colobus, both of which can be tracked. Nyungwe’s colobus monkeys can sometimes be
seen in spectacular troops of several hundred, believed to be among the largest
numbers worldwide. And in Volcanoes National Park, two groups of endangered
golden monkeys have been habituated for visitor tracking. Pretty and playful,
they’re a delight to watch.
‘Rwanda
holidays
Akagera
National Park in the east of the country is worth exploring. Scenically it is
one of Africa’s best parks, with rolling hills and deep valleys, open savannah
plains to the north and lakes and papyrus swamps on its eastern border. The
park includes the largest protected wetlands in Central Africa and is home to
some 8,000 animals and over 480 species of birds, making Akagera an interesting
destination for a bird watching holiday.
When to
go on a Rwanda Safari Vacation
Vacations
in Rwanda run all year around, but the most popular times to travel are in the
long dry season from June to September, and the shorter dry season around
December to February. If you’re intending to track gorillas, you’ll need to
plan your holiday well ahead to secure Gorilla permits – especially around July
to September. Rwanda’s main rainy season is from March to May, with shorter
rains in October and November.
Rwanda’s
genocide
It will
be naive to suggest that the entire nation has moved on, a holiday here leaves
you with an overwhelming sense of the people’s optimism and national pride, and
their determination that genocide must never happen again. There are no
different distinctions with the people in Rwanda but all call themselves
Rwandese with no distinctions between Tutsis and Hutus. Each year, from April
to July, commemorations called Kwibuka take place as part of the country’s
healing process. And at any time of year, a visit to Kigali’s Genocide Memorial
is important in understanding Rwanda’s history and the events leading up to the
genocide. It may seem an unlikely holiday attraction but it is in fact a
beautiful, peaceful place that is testament to Rwanda’s strength and spirit of
reconciliation.

The Behaviors of African elephants
The Behaviors of
African elephants
The societies of
Africa elephants are arranged around family units. Each family unit is made up
of around ten closely related females and their calves and is led by an older
female known as the matriarch.[3] When separate family units bond, they form
kinship or bond groups. After puberty, male elephants tend to form alliances
with other males most especially during mating season.
Compared to other wild animals in Africa Elephants are at
their most fertile between the ages of 25 and 45.[3] Calves are born after a
gestation period of nearly two years. The calves are cared for by their mother
and other young females in the group, known as allomothers
Elephants use some vocalisations that are beyond the hearing
range of humans, to communicate across large distances. Elephant mating rituals
include the gentle entwining of trunks
The fore Africa elephants are not easy for domesticated .
during the climatic changes of the Pleistocene.[14]
